On Wednesday, September 18, we organized an outing to Toronto to see the production of Life of Pi. It was a beautiful, sunny day, and most of us traveled together on the GO Train. Upon arriving, we walked to the Queen’s Cross Food Hall in the Eaton Centre, where a variety of dishes from up-and-coming chefs awaited us at the Oliver and Bonacini-inspired pop-up. I noticed a wide range of meals being enjoyed, from hummus bowls, salads, and pasta to fish and chips, burgers, and poutine.
After lunch, we strolled through the city streets to the Mirvish Theatre on Victoria Street. For those familiar with the epic novel or the film, translating Life of Pi into a stage production seemed like a daunting challenge. Yet, I was truly impressed by how the creative use of simple lighting projections, dramatic music, sound effects, and a skilled team of hands manipulating props and animal figures brought the story to life!
Following the performance, we headed back to Union Station for the journey home. It was wonderful to share the experience with fellow RTO members and enjoy this imaginative adaptation of Life of Pi.
